On July 24, 1950, a Bumper V-2 rocket rose from the sands of Cape Canaveral, quietly beginning a story that would change humanity’s relationship with the sky forever. 🚀 What started as an experimental launch became the birthplace of American spaceflight—and a place where curiosity learned how to leave Earth.

Over the next 75 years, this coastline watched thousands of rockets climb upward, carrying satellites, science, and people toward orbit, the Moon, and far beyond. Nearby at Kennedy Space Center, astronauts departed on humanity’s first crewed missions, walked on the Moon, and helped build the International Space Station—a symbol of what we can do together.

Today, Kennedy is still alive with that same spirit. As NASA’s primary launch site and a hub for commercial and international partners, it blends decades of history with the excitement of what’s coming next.

From a single test rocket to a gateway for the world, Cape Canaveral reminds us that exploration is built step by step, launch by launch, by people willing to look up and try.

Building From Example

We’re using the Athena V2 Iteration V18 from Sketchfab as the starting point for exploring the design and control of an actively guided rocket. This detailed model helps us understand the fundamentals of rocket framing, control systems, and coding needed for stabilization and flight.

A big thank you to the original designers for sharing such an inspiring and well-crafted design. Your work sets the stage for learning, building, and innovation.
