NASA’s Perseverance rover recently captured a stunning self-portrait surrounded by the rugged landscape of ancient Mars at a site known as “Lac de Charmes.” Created from 61 individual images, the composite photo shows the rover positioned beside a freshly abraded rock target, with the western rim of Jezero Crater visible in the distance. The abrasion process allows Perseverance to grind away the outer surface of rocks so scientists can study the material hidden beneath. The image was taken on March 11 during Sol 1,797 of the mission, marking the rover’s farthest journey west within Jezero Crater to date.

Building From Example
We’re using the Athena V2 Iteration V18 from Sketchfab as the starting point for exploring the design and control of an actively guided rocket. This detailed model helps us understand the fundamentals of rocket framing, control systems, and coding needed for stabilization and flight.
