On Aug. 26, 2025, NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick (left) and Mark Vande Hei (right) flew to a Rocky Mountain landing zone in northern Colorado to complete the certification run for NASA’s Artemis lander flight training course—an environment whose terrain and visual illusions closely mirror the Moon. The newly certified course is a major milestone in preparing crews for Artemis missions to the lunar South Pole and, ultimately, for human exploration deeper into the solar system, including Mars.

Building From Example
We’re using the Athena V2 Iteration V18 from Sketchfab as the starting point for exploring the design and control of an actively guided rocket. This detailed model helps us understand the fundamentals of rocket framing, control systems, and coding needed for stabilization and flight.
